Fundamentals of Woodworking: Handmade

Details

Learn the fundamentals of working wood with your hands.  In this course we will discuss the basic hand tool kit, how to maintain and sharpen your tools and of course how to use them. We will focus primarily on the use of hand planes, sawing, and chisel work.

Through a series of three small projects students will start to gain the muscle memory and practice essential for hand tools. Students will make a joiner’s mallet and try square that can be used to construct the final project - a three-legged milking stool.

Students will experience the romance and reward that comes from making something purely by hand.

Prerequisite: No wood working experience necessary.  All materials will be provided.  Students should expect to work outside of class time as necessary.
