Glass on Metal: Enameling & Metal Forming

Details

This class combines two of the popular, intensive workshops we’ve offered and sets it at a more relaxed pace. In this course, beginner metalsmiths will learn to manipulate metal with hammers and other tools to create forms that we’ll then use to experiment with our studio’s rainbow of colorful vitreous enamels. The finished work can be made into jewelry or objet d’art. Think earrings and necklaces or decorative bowls and trinket dishes! You will start by learning various metal working techniques, including basic forging and fold-forming with hammers, and piercing with a jeweler’s saw. Then you’ll take the forms or shapes you made and work with color to add depth and texture to our pieces. You’ll have plenty of time to experiment with cloisonne, sgraffito, stenciling, and other forms of mark making with enamels. We’ll also cover the basics of finishing your pieces, making lovely enamel jewelry that is perfect for gift-giving!
