Intro to Moku Hanga: Japanese Woodblock Printmaking

Details

Create colorful images through the ancient art of Moku Hanga. Japanese woodblock prints are characterized by the luminous brilliance achieved when water-based ink is printed on Washi (handmade Japanese paper). Multiple block registration and bokashi (color gradation) will be taught. Unlike Western relief printmaking, no press is used; water is the only solvent and minimal workspace is required. This is one form of printmaking you can safely and easily enjoy at home.

Prerequisite: Some familiarity with printmaking is helpful, but not required. Note: See supply sheet for how to prepare image for the first morning.
