Surface Design: Dye / Resist / Paint / Print
Design textile surfaces from start to finish in this multiple process course. Starting with immersion dying, techniques to create wash fast functional garments, accessories and fabrics will build upon one another. Using water based resist and direct application painting of dye, a second layer can be added to previously manipulated material. Screenprinting starting with black and white drawings, digital images, or patterns will be covered along with the use of water based inks to mask or work along with dyed goods. The first four weeks of classes will include demonstrations and practice of techniques followed by several weeks of free work time for independent projects. Special focus will be spent on chemistry of dyes, fiber, ink, and how to be successful in reaching planned project goals. Course includes 2 yards fabric, tote bag, and 2 scarves or bandanas.
