Temari : Japanese Spherical Embroidery

Details

Temari are embroidered spheres traditionally made in Japan and given as gifts to mark special occasions, or for professional accomplishments. Their intricate patterns are meant to show a particular wish for health, happiness, or prosperity. In this eight session course you will learn how to wrap a core, how to mark the core without math using relational geometry, and how to complete several types of patterns from very basic to intermediate. The history and meaning of traditional color pairings and symbols will be explored as well as the cultural context of these charming items.

Prerequisites: No prerequisite but some knowledge of embroidery or working with yarn, thread or string will be helpful.
