YA! Camp Session 1A: Stop Motion Animation & Intro to Woodworking (6/18-6/22)

Art Adventures YA! (Young Adult) Day Camp introduces students in grades 6-8 to OCAC’s professional art studios under the guidance of working artists and arts educators. Each weeklong session is comprised of two in-depth art workshops. This intensive exploration of two different studio techniques provides the developing teen boundless opportunity for self-expression and personal exploration. The YA! Day Camp is an ideal starting point for any youth interested in pursuing art at a more complex and rigorous level.

At the end of the week, we welcome both family and friends to come to campus at 4:00pm for our Friday Art Show, where students can show off their work and view work done by other YA! participants.

Each weeklong camp runs 9:00am-5:00pm, every day. Supervised care is available from 8am-9am (Before Care) and from 5pm-6pm (After Care). Before/After Care is offered as a package for an additional fee of $30 per session. No person under the age of 15 years may wait unsupervised on the campus of Oregon College of Art and Craft.

Stop Motion Video:

Our new Stop Motion Video workshop functions as a collaborative exploration of a stop motion film. Think Nightmare Before Christmas, Wallace and Grommit, Coraline, or The Fatastic Mr. Fox and the amazing LAIKA studios here in Oregon. Come learn first hand how to shoot, animate and edit a stop motion movie using digital technology. Creative teamwork, exploring the digital lab and finessing a final project will round out this amazing workshop. You will leave with a finished video project and skills to continue filmmaking on your own! Students need access to a camera that can take video and still images.

Introduction to Woodworking:

Our YA! Wood workshop utilizes wood techniques, experimentation with wood and discovery of wood skills all facilitated by experienced instructors. With 3D projects that have a functional, play, or aesthetic focus, our wood workshop helps every student feel successful. Projects in the past have included small furniture, carving kitchen utensils, sculptures, building boxes, self portraits in wood, and many more. You will learn each step in building a wood structure or project. Come explore your creativity with wood in many ways, including basic sawing, gluing, nail work, sanding, finishing, and general construction. Our wood workshop is a lively and creative workshop that YA! campers enjoy.
