YA! Camp Session 5B: Upcycled Fashion & Metals: Jewelry (7/16-7/20)

This camp is intended for children entering grades 6-8 in the fall. If your child will be entering grade 9 in the fall you have the option to register for a Pre-College workshop for kids entering grades 9-12.

Art Adventures YA! (Young Adult) Day Camp introduces students in grades 6-8 to OCAC’s professional art studios under the guidance of working artists and arts educators. Each weeklong session is comprised of two in-depth art workshops. This intensive exploration of two different studio techniques provides the developing teen boundless opportunity for self-expression and personal exploration. The YA! Day Camp is an ideal starting point for any youth interested in pursuing art at a more complex and rigorous level.

At the end of the week, we welcome both family and friends to come to campus at 4:00pm for our Friday Art Show, where students can show off their work and view work done by other YA! participants.

Each weeklong camp runs 9:00am-5:00pm, every day. Supervised care is available from 8am-9am (Before Care) and from 5pm-6pm (After Care). Before/After Care is offered as a package for an additional fee of $30 per session. No person under the age of 15 years may wait unsupervised on the campus of Oregon College of Art and Craft.

Upcycled Fashion + Fantasy Costume Design:

Time to redesign old clothing into something fantastic! Breathe life into an old design! You will use basic design, alteration and sewing skills to restructure garments into something new. Just GOOGLE Altered T-Shirts and you can see the various ways to rethink your clothing! For those of you interested in costume design as well, the idea is the same- we will repurpose clothing, use recycled materials and found objects to turn them into fabulous costumes. Plan for Halloween next year, or your own film production!

Metals: Jewelry

YA! Metals is a wonderful and rare chance for middle school students to explore an ancient medium and the techniques to create small-scale projects such as jewelry, sculpture, functional items and decorative metal pieces. Each Metals Instructor focuses on different techniques to produce wonderful projects. Examples of projects might include wire sculpture and explore how to use line three-dimensionally, cutting flat sheets to create forms that move, surface design and stamping to create literary metal pieces or wearable art, and small scale forming and bending of metal to create jewelry. Every metals class is unique, and offers different skills for campers to explore in the wide field of metals in our state of the art metals studio on campus.
