Fibers Department Head Emily Nachison Lectures at University of Missouri

April 13, 2018

OCAC Fibers Department Head Emily Nachison lectured at the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO on Monday, April 9, 2018. Emily gave a public lecture and met with graduate and undergraduate students in the university's Fiber and Sculpture programs.

Emily received her MFA in Fibers from Cranbrook Academy of Art and her BFA in Fibers from Maryland Institute College of Art. In her work, she explores the desire for alternate realities and liminal space. Through sculptural objects and installation, she investigates the use of story and symbols to mythologize natural phenomena, referencing our collective desire for escapism and secret knowledge. Emily's material choices are governed by each material's cultural lineage and ability to impart meaning.
