A piece of work by Amanda Linn, a Post-Baccalaureate student at OCAC, has been chosen for the student exhibition as part of this year's Surface Design Association (SDA) conference. The juried exhibition, Future Tense, shows the work of current students or recent graduates who work with fiber or textile materials. Future Tense offers a glimpse into the future of contemporary fibers by presenting the very best work being made by students in the field today.

Amanda's entry for the exhibition was accompanied by her Artist's Statement:

What is essential to the human experience? How do we—how can we--hold paradox and duality? What connects us, and what divides us? Wool is a wonderful partner in the exploration of these existential questions as its potential is as vast as our imagination and yet it is fundamentally grounded, animal, warm. “The Family Mantle” explores identity formation within family or tribal dynamics.  How can identity both shelter and imprison?

The SDA conference takes place August 3-6, 2017, and is held in partnership with Oregon College of Art and Craft and Portland State University.
